Teenagers Can Be Great July 27 2008 by Dani

B and NB are great kids, (huge sign and pause) for teenagers. Moms took them shopping today fully expecting to need a dump truck to bring home their treasures.
The girls did not want a thing – Mom had to force book bags on them both – and Momtoo wanted to buy them tennis shoes that pumped up or had wheels or both.

But the girls turned them down. They said their mother had taught them to look around and if something else caught their attention they were in the want mood and not the need mood.

Moms thought it was cute. The B saw a dress that was too big for her but she said it would look perfect on the mother. Mom asked Red’s size and her daughter knew all the vital measurements.

Mom found the right size and put it on the counter and asked what else. The girls looked and looked then NB found another outfit. They bought those two then changed stores and they found four more and added them to the stack.

In the end the girls said they would pay them back from the work they did for Pops. Mom told he she would have Pops take it out a little at a time.

When B tried to figure it out Mom told her she got a discount because she belonged to a club. Yeah, right.

When they got home they walked in to G and Fire in robes relaxing by the hot tub. Their mother was also in a robe at the kitchen table talking to someone on the phone. When she saw her kids and all the sacks she got a very scared look on her face.

Moms patted her hand and told her she had the BEST kids in the world – look what they bought you.

As dress after dress came out the tears in her eyes got bigger and bigger. To distract herself for a moment, she asked what they each got. Momtoo showed her their book bags and told them she and Mom had tried everything but she had taught them well – the difference between WANT and NEED never resonated with me, OR Annie OR BBs.

I laughed and told them to F O – B knew what it stood for which scared her mom. After they showed her the rest of her gifts she was almost in tears when Mom asked if the gig was on – I said yes and that there were at least two boys that might be there.

I asked the girls if they wanted to go visit BBs and Jeni and go swimming –yep, they were ready but first they wanted to know if Pops had got up. At first I was not sure what they meant – yes girls he got out of bed earlier (and I bet he was up not a half hour ago).

They asked if they could see him and as Pops walked into the room he told them he was putting a 4-hour time limit on video games.

They laughed then Pops asked Red if she was ready. She said yes. She hugged and kissed both her girls and followed Pops into the hallway.

I told the girls to get the suits – we were going to go chase boys – they squealed with Joy. Mom said she would call me when the coast was clear.

I buckled the girls in, put down the top and squealed the tires every chance I got while listening to Miley or Kiley or someone – not a bad singer.

We got to BBs and two blond boys were cleaning the pool. B asked that I drive past – she wanted to put on a little makeup if it was OK. I asked if her Mom would let her and she said know.

But it had not been that long for me so I suggested they change into their bikinis and scare them. They thought that was a great idea and they changed right in the car.

I dug through my bag and found some sarongs, which were very, very sheer, and we were set.

If you do not think teenagers are aware of their sexual appeal, you should have watched these girls use it to shock the boys when we walked through the pool area to get to BBs’ back door.

We asked BBs for someplace to clean up a little and I whispered to get the boys in here while the girls were fixing their hair etc.

She did not have to do a thing, they were at the back door bitching to BBs that she never told them they were so hot – they had to go home and change and they were gone.

I figured we had seen the last of them – the girls came out and we all horsed around. They asked where the boys were and I told them they went home to change.

I was giving up hope when a very attractive man and equally attractive woman came in the gate. Just making sure the boys had been invited to the party.

BBs invited their parents but they had church. They would check on the boys when they got home.

Then BBs, Jen and I ceased to exist, as least in the eyes of four teenagers.

Jen asked if they wanted soda or juice – they all asked for something different and the oldest boy suggested they walk to the grocery. Jen gave him the money and they were gone for over an hour – for a 5-minute walk.

BBs called the store and was told the kids had taken 20 minutes plus to pick out their drinks, at least twenty minutes to open them and get to know about each others schools and parents.

They had just left for home but they must be taking the long way because they went the opposite way around the park.

The cashier told us she was closing in 5 minutes and she had to drive right past them on the way home. If something seemed amiss she would call us.

About that time the parents got back. Jen got them some wine and we set and talked until the kids got back.

They did not even acknowledge us – right to the pool they went.

When we came home the only thing they talked about were the boys. But they did not talk to Pops about them; they seemed to get shy around him.

Teenagers can be so much fun.
