Liz walked in blindfolded and when it was removed she looked very puzzled. We all yelled surprise and she grinned like an idiot but she grabbed me and Pops and asked what made us ‘think’ it was her birthday.

Pops said her file. She looked puzzled and asked to see it. She looked, then checked the top of the form and pointed out to Pops what he was looking at.

Pops looked embarrassed. He handed me the file and I immediately looked at the top but didn’t see anything wrong. There was Liz’s name and old address and phone number and I saw it. One-third down the page, the information changed to that of her mother.

Today was her mother’s birthday. Oh no. Pops asked when her birthday was and she said September 12 – the second worse day of the year to have a birthday, September 11 being the worse.

Stubby came in and must have paid attention this time – he wondered what kind of party we were having for Liz.

Liz explained it. Stubby laughed then looked around and said it would be a shame to waste all of this.

Liz said she always wanted to celebrate her birthday early to get away from the 9/11 stigma.

She said today was as good as any other and she started the party. Then she came back and told her Dad he might as well move his birthday too.

When she left I asked – his is September 11. Today he and his daughter are celebrating their new birthday.

Everyone thinks it’s cool they share birthdays. Cheese came up and asked how we got him to change it. When we explained he thought it was the greatest mistake Pops had ever made.
NB and B just took Liz and Stubby out to see her new car he bought. It just disappeared up the hill. I know Stubby cannot be driving it so we’ve put the kids and Stubby in Liz’s hands.

Everyone else is helping everyone get everything ready. Blackmama is putting the finishing touches on the cake – Captain has iced down his potato salad and put out all the other stuff.

Cheese just cooked some test hamburgers to make sure his grill is ready. Denny just popped a beer open – need to make sure it is ready he says.

I am still in shock and Pops and me screwed up. Oh well, at least it turned out good. Thank goodness.
