Busy Busy day.

We girls looked at schools - the 2 we really like start classes next week and we just don't have time to get ready. Another said it would be at least 2 weeks before we knew if we met academic standards.

So pops, of all people, suggested we give it a break. We have enough to keep us busy for a couple of months. He suggested we just spend the next 6 months getting into a routine. We are a bit disappointed but its ok.

Lisa and I went up to cell point and she called work to quit but her new boss would not let her. Lisa started to argue when she was told that she had almost 60 days of sick time (only been sick once in five years) and 13 weeks of vacation due her.

She is now on a 60 day medical leave and then she will start a 13 week vacation period. And the big kicker, after 6 months of paid time off with benefits (pops biggest worry) she will be on a 6 month leave of absence with minimal benefits but no pay.

While on leave she has to pay work's monthly share of her insurance which is less then $100 bucks a month.

So for the next year, she has health and dental, plenty of time for pops to figure something out. And for the next 6 months she's got a paycheck coming in.

Before she got off the phone she was told one more thing - and she was confused - she has been appoved for promotion retro-active to December of last year. She jumped 4 pay grades. Plus she was designated Shift SUpervisor which is another promotion and pay grade.

I thought that was great news. She said that was a 25% increase in pay for the next 6 months. (My first thought was moms was going to have to pay her more to take care of pops).

When she hung up she had tears in her eyes and when I raised my eyebrows all she said was mom. I didn't get it. Back at the cabin she was filling pops in but he was talking with her - he already knew most of the details but when she mentioned the promotions he said, "Shit! I was suppose to tell you about that so you would not be surprised."

I asked what that meant - then it hit me - good ole mom - she had put Lisa in for promotion without telling her. As we discussed things it became clear that mom has setup this whole thing before she left.

So Lisa is still walking in the clouds - she has almost a year to "try" her new job and if anything goes wrong she has a backup plan. She's pretty happy.

And then pops gave something that made her go to her room - when I got there I KNEW that pops must have really hurt her.

After a while of crying and her trying to tell me everything was fine, she handed me the piece of paper that he was supposed to have given her last night.

It detailed what her pay was going to be with the promotion at work. If pops approved her as his nurse, and to convince her to come to work for them, moms were offering 25% more in salary plus at least two weeks vacation.

PLUS they were offering 1/2 her NEW yearly salary as a bonus to come to work since she had endured so much from them for the last 6 months and pops had added 3 months pay in advance!

Plus he had already signed the agreement and scribbled on a sticky-note that if the amounts were too low, change them to whatever she wanted.

And the kicker - there was a blank, signed check made out to her with another sticky-note that said make it out yourself, pops. Welcome to the family.

Whe she was settled down we went back down and she asked pops if the bank the check was drawn on was a good one - he said they have not lost any of his money and they had branches here and home.

We went to the bank to deposit the check. Now being a small town, they already knew that Lisa was visiting us, but when the teller at the bank knew her name - we knew pops had already called.

We were on the way home when she asked if it was always like this. I asked her what she meant. She told me to quit being a smart ass.

When she got home she tried to tell pops thanks and chatted with moms but she can't find the words. Pops said, "You'll just have to show me!" and chuckled for a while at his stupid joke.

She left the room and pops told she was floating on cloud nine. Now what the hell does that mean - I'm still working on 'medium to sluts passed on'.

She also passed on her Lisa's standing orders when she is gone:

1) Don't let Dani wrap pops around her little finger - she can't either

2) Don't kill us
