We just got four inches of rain – four inches in about 25 minutes. It was amazing. We got the cover on the pool but we only locked down the corners – we didn’t put in the center poles to raise the cover. The center of the cover was completed flooded and hanging in the water.
But Pops was prepared – he has a pump with a long hose that he used and had it pumped out in about ten minutes.

The driveway was flooded in all the low places and the caretaker came over to check on things out of habit. He said the main road was flooded at both bridges and at the turnoff. He said the ditches are over flowing all the way into town.

Pops just called the tavern which sits on the lowest part of main street – the new owner raised the floor a foot due to the flooding – the barmaid said water was curb to curb and corner to corner.

Our little street crew (one person and volunteers) was already pumping water. The power company was on the way because the west end of town was without power.

All in 45 minutes. This can stop NOW. Stubby just called – they got 2 more inches of rain and the little river rose almost two feet in the last hour. He thinks there is more coming. He said William’s thingy is hanging by cables – he called Cheese to find someone to come out and take it down – William told him not to bother – a crew would be there within the hour to fix it.

Stubby is afraid it will swing and fall into the window wall. Luckily he thinks the storms are over.

Moms took the phone and asked about her flowers – he told her he has watered everything in pots and along the driveway but her gardens and beds are gone. He told Mom he would plant something as soon as he was able so that at least there would be some color the next time she came down.

Pops told me this happens about every four or five summers – next year we’ll probably be screaming for rain. Welcome to the Midwest.

I’ll check back later unless we float away.

An hour later – the sun came out and now we have another system coming in. It dumped three inches in the county over so we’ll probably get the same.

I think I’ll go to bed for a while or maybe I’ll crack open the last gallon of margaritas – if I do that I will be in bed before nightfall – can’t miss supper – Captain would force feed me – from the wrong end.
