River - Cabin Update by Lisa

I went with Captain to visit the cabin and generally check on things. Still lots of water and Stubby says we still have at least two weeks before the water is all gone - if then. He said if they got lots of water upstream today we can probably add another week on.
Captain said he had talked to a barge pilot that had made it down from Iowa after five weeks. He says he has not seen so much debris in his fifteen years on the river. He also said that two bridges were gone - one of them over a hundred years old and the other only a few.

The pilot is going to call Captain when he reaches his destination someplace in La and give him an update.

We looked around the cabin -most of the water is gone from what I call the crawl space and the top garden is starting to dry out. Stubby said someone pumped the pool out yesterday and sprayed it with the worst smelling stuff he ever smelled.

When I checked it looked like someone had bleached the inside of the pool. I can not wait to get it going. The inside of the cabin is smelling like cedar again or whatever kind of wood lines it.

The boat house is perfect - except for the line around the bottom on the outside of the paneling. It is almost six feet high but as Captain pointed out it would still be fine even if the flood reached the levels of 1993. Glad I missed it.

So we are still stuck at the hotel - none of us are bitching. We don't have a lot of cooking options - we either eat out or call room service. But when we want salad and soup what we get is so many steps above tomato soup and a lettuce salad. Hell the flat ware is more costly then the food we normally eat.

Pops has bribed someone in the kitchen to let us know when there are fresh cinnamon rolls and when the chef is making fresh french onion soup - Pops favorite. I brought Stubby some MickeyDs - he loves the stuff but he usually eats it cold - yuck. He gave me 3 tomatoes - just turning red - it they are like the last I will eat them all with a salt shaker in one setting - they are so good and juicing.

About the only thing Stubby and I agree to is that a tomato is a fruit - not a vegetable. Pops agrees.

Hope the rain stays away.
